The Cannons Scholars
"...always a joy to listen to" (audience comment, Feb, 2005)
The Cannons Scholars are a modern-instrument ensemble performing works of the eighteenth century, and specialising in English-language theatre works, under their founder-director, John Andrews. Their first concert was of Mozarts Gran Partita K361 (the 'Serenade for 13 Wind Instruments') in February 2004, followed the following June by a performance of Handels original version of Acis and Galatea. Notable concerts since have included the 1737 burlesque The Dragon of Wantley, John Eccles' opera Semele, and Thomas Arne's masque The Judgment of Paris. The Pergolesi was excellent!
Excellent performance of the Stabat Mater...both soloists exciting and very moving.
Tremendous concert. Thoses dinning on the other side of the wall don't know what they're missing!
Lovely to hear the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante in this, his anniversary year.
